So Much Genius

February 23, 2010

First you must read the story up at Everyday Genius today. It’s by Heather Palmer and it knocked my socks off. (Yeah, yeah, those of you who know me well go ahead and call foul; I never wear socks, even in the dead of winter–but it’s an expression, you know? Christ.) Here, read some and go get some more:

Fire reminds her of tales she lived. A small person in the tale he tells, a small person lives in trees and eats from the ground, never lifts its legs before its wings. Flies where berries fall. All these stories Ronan tells. Pitta soaks-in. Her palms face-out turn red with warmth, joy.

When you’re done, go read this, if you haven’t already. I’ve been well-disposed toward Publishers Weekly for some time now, ever since they basically made my thesis possible. And I am certainly well-disposed toward them now, after this lovely writeup on the goodness that is Publishing Genius and its creator, Adam Robinson. (Did you read it? Good. Now go order a copy of Adam’s book. Thank you.) Congratulations to Adam for this. It’s well-deserved.
